Tonga - Grants for attending high school
Although Tongan students from ages 6 to 14 can attend quality government-sponsored schools for free, high school students who wish to continue their education must pay a fee to do so.
What’s more, kids from disadvantaged backgrounds usually forgo their education in order to work on family farms to survive. By missing this opportunity, much of Tonga’s child population remains in poverty for the remainder of their lives.
The Red Bow aims to help transform the lives of teens in Tonga by providing them with full scholarships so they can continue their high school education and have a brighter future.
You can apply for a scholarship if:
Your kid is aged between 14 to 18 years and is a Tongan resident.
Your kid wishes to continue their high school education.
You are financially unable to cover these costs.
Scholarships can cover any of the following:
School fees
School materials
School uniforms
Sports equipment
How It Works
Families or guardians that wish to apply for the scholarship will need to fill an application form. The application form can be written in Tongan and kids must provide any of the following formats as cover letter:
Written letter (English/Tongan)
Record a video of themselves explaining why the scholarship is important to them (English/Tongan)
The application(s) will be sent to The Red Bow for review.
If the applicant is successful in securing a scholarship, we will communicate the approval of the application by The Red Bow to the applicant and the school. The school will need to send an invoice to The Red Bow for the cost of the scholarship with a break-down of what is included in it.
Once the invoice is received, the funds will be paid to the school to help the kid continue his/her studies.
We aim to open the scholarships to help teens in Tonga sometime towards 2026. Sign up to our mailing list below and we’ll notify you when we start accepting applications.
